Joel

Joel has been with us at the Conwell Inn as a Front Desk agent for nearly a year now. Joel has recently graduated from Temple University with his Bachelor’s Degree in both English and Women’s Studies. He has also recently been accepted to two, rigorous and highly envied Master’s programs at UCLA! Within the next 3 years, Joel will have obtained his Masters in both Public Health and Social Work. He is a very professional and impressive gentleman with amazing customer service skills. You will never find anything out of place on his shift! We are so happy to have had Joel with us for as long as we have. He will certainly remain a member of our Conwell family for many years to come. Thank you Joel for your attention to detail and outstanding service to the Conwell Inn!

Running Down Broad

Running Down Broad

Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the Broad St. Run in Philadelphia, one of the largest ten-mile road races in the United States! Over 30,000 runners begin at the athletic fields of Central High School in the Logan neighborhood and finish in the Navy Yard of South Philadelphia. Part of this straight stretch course passes through Temple University, and therefore right past the Conwell Inn! Needless to say, because of our convenient location to Broad St. and public transportation, we sell out months in advance for this great event. Not only have some of our guests traveled from all over the U.S. to attend this race and stay with us, we have international guests who have traveled here to compete as well! We also have repeat guests from previous years who have competed in the race. The Broad St. Run is another wonderful example of what draws people to the wonderful city of Philadelphia, and we graciously appreciate their company and business. This year we wish all runners the best of luck and hope to see them again in the near future!

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…

Gloria

Gloria has been on our housekeeping staff for over one year now and she has recently been named our ‘Employee of the Quarter’. She is deserving of this title for several reasons. Firstly, her rooms are very tenderly taken care of and guests are always certain to take notice of her hard work. Secondly, she is always here when we need her, which means she often takes on extra shifts, sometimes putting her at 7 days a week. Finally, Gloria is always willing to take on extra responsibility and performs at maximum level with a smile! We are very grateful to have her on our housekeeping staff. Her hard work makes all the difference at the Conwell!

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…

Bre

Bre, a fairly new addition to the Conwell family, has been working with us as a Front Desk agent since the summer of 2011.  Bre is consistently raved about on our guest review surveys as well as frequently mentioned in online reviews of the hotel. She has a very soft and sweet demeanor but is always fired up to take great pride in her work.  Her kindness, generosity and compassion for people have made her an unforgettable co-worker and friend to everyone at the Conwell Inn. Bre is currently a Temple student studying Asian Studies and Linguistics. When she graduates she hopes to travel abroad and teach English to children in foreign countries. We are so very happy to have Bre with us and we hope she stays with us for the duration of her college career!

How Close is Close?

Though we are only a mile and a half away from the endless possibilities of Center City, Philadelphia, there is a lot in between that you may not know about! Guests often feel they need to travel into the heavy traffic of the city for a good meal, but less than a mile away from the Conwell Inn, there are other options to explore. One such option is the critically acclaimed Italian sensation, Osteria. With an Italian wine list exceeding 100 bottles, this is truly a fine dining experience, only minutes away. Their homemade pastas, thin crust pizzas, and wood grilled meats and fish are sure to please any palate.

A little further down Broad Street are two brand new attractions, both opened in October of 2011. Vie, although not a walk-in restaurant, has become one of Philly’s largest and most elegant wedding destinations. Right next door is a restaurant called Route 6, a new Stephen Starr seafood classic. Themed to the stretch of seashore from Maryland to Maine, Route 6 takes its name from the length of highway that runs from Cape Cod all the way out to Provincetown, specializing in all the typical Atlantic coast cuisine.

Next time you visit, don’t be afraid to stray off campus to find a good meal. There are plenty of options only blocks away.

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…

Joe

Joe has been working with the Conwell Inn since 2009.  Joe is definitely one of those people who can make you smile just by walking into the room. He has been an outstanding Director of Maintenance and Engineering and can typically fix anything you send his way. Joe is a Philadelphia native and has lived here his entire life. Before coming to the Conwell, he worked at the Philadelphia Inquirer for over a decade as a supervisor and night maintenance manager. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Outside of work, Joe is an avid bicyclist and loves when the weather is just right to bring out his motorcycle!  He is certainly an outstanding employee and an even better friend to everyone who knows him. We couldn’t imagine life at the Conwell without him!
