Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots
Every year, Thanksgiving reminds us of what we are truly thankful for. Most will say family, friends, food, and especially after super storm Sandy, many are particularly grateful for shelter. So many people lost everything they owned, and while the victims still have each other, the material damage is devastating. As this holiday season is now officially begun, I ask you to keep in mind those who have lost everything, especially the children who are completely helpless. Aside from Sandy, children across our entire nation suffer from poverty. Keeping the mindset of Thanks”giving” alive throughout the holiday season, we ask that you consider those in need and give back by donating a new, unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots. The Conwell Inn is now an official location for Toys for Tots donations. Whether you are planning to stay with us in next few weeks, or you simply want to drop by, please bring a donation with you that will put a smile a child’s face. The joy and happiness of this time of year starts with you! Let’s not forget to give back and remember those less fortunate. We wish you a very happy holiday season and hope to see you soon!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

There is much to be thankful for as we reflect on our lives this Thanksgiving. After being untouched by Hurricane Sandy, we are grateful for our safety and our thoughts go out to all those who were not as fortunate. We are thankful for good business and wonderful company in our hotel. And we are also thankful for a wonderful staff that makes every day here a successful one. We want to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. We hope you have safe travels and cherish the time you are able to spend with family and friends!

Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy
With backup generators humming, a fresh stock of food supplies on hand, and a handful of employees hunkered down in rooms for the duration, The Conwell Inn did all that it could to prepare for the effects of Hurricane Sandy.  Ultimately, we were extremely fortunate to escape the storm without any damage or loss of power.  Our hearts truly go out to all of those, especially in New York and New Jersey, who were not so lucky, and will feel the effects of Sandy for quite some time.
It’s times like this when we feel the need to power through, and work with those who are having a more difficult time.  Due to cancelled flights, suspended public transportation, and for all intents and purposes an absolute closure of everything on the East Coast, many guests were stranded with us for a handful of days.  Discounted rates were extended to those who needed to stay unexpectedly, and cancellation fees were waived for all of those who just simply couldn’t make it in…all 78 of them!
Natural disasters are a true test of character for anyone involved, and it seems as if the Conwell Inn is no different.  Suffering no damage, we were able to step up and help where help was needed, in any way we could, from afternoon cookies, to giving the people the security of knowing they had a place to stay as we weather the storm together.
Many thanks to our remarkable staff, including some that were here for 40+ hours straight, and best wishes to all of those that stayed with us, that their families are healthy and safe and that their lives are slowly returning to normalcy after this historic event!
