Jillian- Meet our Staff- One Star at a Time...

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…
Jillian
Jillian has been with us since the summer of 2011.  Jillian is, believe it or not, the only Front Desk employee who is studying Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University. Having already worked at many Philadelphia hotels, she aspires to one day be a General Manager of one of them.  Jillian has been a great addition to the Conwell family! Her friendly and outgoing personality shows her true value as a hotel representative and we are very pleased to offer that value to our guests. Aside from school and work, Jillian loves to cook at home and enjoys going to the gym in her spare time. She also often takes advantage of any opportunity to see the many museums and local attractions that Philadelphia has to offer.
Look forward to more posts about the rest of our stellar staff!

Showcasing Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts

Showcasing Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts

As the Conwell Inn is located directly off of Broad Street, Philadelphia’s Avenue of the Arts, this blog would like to serve as a showcase for its many wonderful events. In the upcoming months, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is presenting several opportunities to see the Philadelphia Orchestra, performing Bach to Mahler and the 155th Academy of Music Concert. At Academy of the Arts in February, the Broadway’s RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles will be taking stage, a truly unique experience for the Philadelphia theatre-goers.  At the Merriam Theater in February, The Pennsylvania Ballet will be presenting Pushing Boundaries with choreography by Matthew Neenan and music by William Forsythe. Explore the physical and emotional boundaries of classical ballet as an ensemble of 18 dancers engage Forsythe's bold interpretation of the ballet lexicon. With so much to offer on the Avenue of the Arts, we hope to inspire your inner artist, actor, musician or ballerina. Take advantage of the city and enjoy all that Philadelphia has to offer!

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…

Meet our Staff – One Star at a Time…
Brendan
Brendan has been with us for over a year now, and it’s hard to remember the Conwell without him.  Loved by everyone who comes to visit, Brendan has been said to exhibit the most courteous and friendly persona known to mankind.  Going above and beyond is his specialty, and it makes a true difference – to guests and co-workers alike!  Aside from being a true asset to the Conwell Inn, Brendan is known for his adventurous spirit.  Mountain Climbing, Extreme Hiking – if it’s an outdoors challenge, you can count him in!  Brendan will soon graduate from Temple University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and International Relations with a minor in French.
Look forward to more posts about the rest of our stellar staff!

Levels of Diversity

Levels of Diversity

I write this blog from a more personal stance as an employee of the Conwell Inn.  I want to share with you the one thing I love most about working here – the range of diversity I have seen walk through our doors in the past three years.
With Temple University being ranked as the “most diverse” college campus in the nation, it is not surprising that the Conwell Inn draws in that same wealth of backgrounds.  I cannot begin to tell you how much I have learned about different parts of the world from all of the wonderful people I have met.  It is amazing how much you can learn, just from talking to people – people who often times are crossing language barriers just to have that conversation.  It is even more amazing to discover what brings all of these international guests to our doorstep.  Believe it or not, not all of our international guests come from America’s most diverse university.  Many of these guests are here as tourists, just looking for “brotherly love” and of course, a Philly Cheesesteak!  While faced with plenty of options in downtown Philadelphia, our international guests, particularly those traveling from Europe, enjoy the warmth of our boutique inn, the more reasonable nightly rates, and the ease of Philadelphia’s public transportation getting them anywhere they need to go.
In working our Front Desk over the past three years, I have learned more about the world and its stunning mix of cultures than I ever imagined possible.  I’m not sure if the international guests who have stayed at the Conwell Inn realize the impact they have on the worldly perspective of its staff.  I, for one, will never take for granted the quality of humanity and many social advantages earned from working in this lovely city!

Conwell Inn Haikus

西 Hotel Haikus

A series of Haiku poems about the Conwell Inn have been developed over the past few weeks. We feel they capture the atmosphere of our beloved hotel and inspire us to always go above and beyond. Let us know what you think! You can respond here or visit our Facebook or Twitter pages.
